The Drawing Board is a Design studio, based out of India and UK, handling Architecture and Interior Design projects . It is founded by Akhila Kumar ( Mumbai based ) and Meera Rajendra ( Liverpool based ). As a boutique firm , the practise ensures that each and every project is given our undivided attention . Contextual design manifests when the client and and the site we inherit are our muses . We strongly believe in working intimately with the client, almost giving them the status of co-designers and have discovered that this makes our projects truly bespoke . We emphasise heavily on user- centric design and even when we work on remote projects , we take all the time we need to get to know our clients and brainstorming with them before sending them proposals We thrive on collaborations, be it with the client, fellow designers , consultants and vendors . This collaboration is key when we reimagine the spaces by willing to disrupt the traditional norms . Our designs are well curated, with equal measures of character, practicality and drama in it . We pride ourselves in making sure every project is unique , and has our stamp on it all the way to the tiniest detail. Akhila and Meera studied architecture together at RVCE Bangalore . They are friends first and partners next . Akhila has worked with C&T Bangalore ,Gayatri and Namith,Sankar and associates and Fluid Space . Meera trained with Architecture Paradigm Bangalore , studied Interior Design at Staffordshire University and worked with an Interior Design firm, WorkSpace before starting off independently . They did a project together and realised that they worked well in tandem, feeding off each others ideas and that’s when The Drawing Board was born in 2005 The duo worked out of Meeras dad office for a few years but like all the best laid plans they moved to different cities . Akhila moved to Mumbai and Meera moved to the UK ., for a few years . In 2018 , Akhila got a call from Bollywood choreographer Bosco Martis that set the ball in motion to their relaunch of TDB. Since then , even though separated by thousands of miles , they work together on projects in Mumbai, Bangalore and UK. The two are in sync with all projects , irrespective of its geography. They had discovered the convenience of a virtual office and ease of freelancers to deliver work long before the pandemic. This kind of flexibility allows them to continue their other passions .The time difference which could have been a problem was made an advantage as turn around time was faster than most other firms.
