About Project
Indian cities have a severe lack of public open spaces, and there is a need to create them, small or large, wherever possible. As a replicable model, the Redevelopment of Ranga Bhavan Chowk sees the re-appropriation of existing, unused land into a public space and helps fill a social void to create a space where people can enjoy being outdoors. The Chowk, as it existed before, had a large, unused island in the center. It was redesigned with a plaza enveloped by a fabricated structure, housing solar panels and LED video panels, integrating solar power infrastructure with the urban fabric in an aesthetically pleasing manner.
