About Project
This house, located on the outskirts of Ahmedabad and inspired by the traditional Maratha Wada, is designed like a maze. The built and unbuilt spaces trigger curiosity and engagement. The house reveals itself through a hidden entry, with stairs that might bring you back to your starting point. It feels like a large haveli with courtyards, spacious rooms, and gathering spaces, yet remains warm, inviting, and filled with stories and emotions. Intricate brickwork employs new bonds and interlocking geometries to lower construction costs. New brick bonds emerged by constant experimentation with brick masonry. The upper floor features expansive rooms, thanks to concrete vaults that reduce vertical elements and bring in natural light. The playful design uses level differences, courtyards, and verandas to create a natural flow between indoor and outdoor spaces. These open areas breathe life into the house, changing with the light and sounds, and blurring the boundaries between public and private spaces.
