About Project
Located in the scenic town of Guruvayankere in coastal Karnataka, Butterfly House embraces the existing contours of the site, establishing a very strong connection with nature, allowing breathtaking views from all spaces of the house. The roof form is inspired by the surrounding mountains that stands out as a distinct feature of the house. Guruvayankere's climate was a huge challenge since the place is warm for most times of the year except for when it receives heavy rainfall during the monsoons. The detailing of the roof form allows run-off of rainwater alongside creating volumes which enable better cross-ventilation and stack cooling. A double height courtyard with lush landscape acts as a welcoming space into the house. The living room opens out into a garden and pool area, elevated above a parking space. An earthy material palette, extensive use of Jaisalmer stone, a strong balance between indoor and outdoor spaces and sufficient light and ventilation are some key highlights of the project.
