About Project
Blue House emerges as a pioneering concept in movable living spaces in outskirts of Pune, Maharashtra, constructed from reused shipping containers. Over the years, it has undergone remarkable transformations, having been relocated four times and redesigned twice, giving users liberty of customization and a versatile home. The innovative design of the Blue House was rooted in the idea of modularity, akin to building blocks, where each container seamlessly integrates with others, offering endless configuration possibilities. This approach underscores the adaptability of such structures as it ages and the ease with which the living space can be enhanced by adding more containers in a relatively short time frame. The Blue House maximizes natural light by strategically opening up walls, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow throughout the day. From a display space, Blue House transitioned into a permanent residence for Dhara, the designer, and her husband, a Naval Officer. With a commitment to sustainability, approximately 65% of reclaimed materials were integrated into its construction, along with pre-existing furniture that narrates stories of the users’ memories.
