Designed for a family of 4, the residence is built on a compact site of 2,400 sq. ft. The road on which the Wedge Villa is built is a narrow road devoid of vegetation making it a perfect canvas to display the house that has a facade can be interpreted as a marble cube from which several garden spaces are carved out.  As per the client's wishes the public and private spaces seamlessly interact with each other through the many garden spaces provided on each floor.

The Stone Screen

An east facing site, one enters through a spacious walkway wrapped with greenery on the north-east side. There are steps at unequal distances creating intrigue and a feeling of luxury right from the entry.  The facade catches the attention of all the onlookers immediately.

A statement facade, the wedge villa uses a beige marble called Omani marble which is originally from Oman. The marble is clad on the steel substructure all done on-site, to create vertical elements along the facade. The same material is maintained throughout the elevation, from the gates to the railing on the first floor. Acting as a stone screen, the facade is employed to manipulate the daylight that comes from the east.

Grand living spaces intertwined with green

The primary functions of the house commences on the first floor. Directly facing the lift lobby is a double-height informal living room adorned in a consistent beige tone, accentuated by vibrant touches of red through the seating. This space extends into a deck garden that protrudes from the façade, featuring black basalt stone flooring that exhibits a subtle shimmer in daylight. From this vantage point, one can observe the formal living room adjacent to marble staircase. Enclosed by curtain walls on three sides, this room resembles a glass box with wooden vertical elements to mitigate harsh light. The space exudes luxury with its teal furniture and distinctive inlay pattern on the floor, serving as an opulent and enduring alternative to a traditional carpet. Notably, this is the sole area with fluted teal walls, creating a visual echo of the façade.

Designed to be private, the second floor consists of a daughter's room along with a private balcony is placed towards the east. As the locality is dense, the same stone screen from the facade wraps around this level from floor to ceiling to provide privacy while also maintaining the ventilation and natural light that enters the space.

A vast master bedroom occupies the entire rear of this floor. It is designed to have a private living room that overlooks the double-height space from the lower floor. Natural light from all three sides fills the space making it look grand yet cozy.
Semi-private spaces are designed to be on the 3rd floor. A multipurpose room occupies the majority of the space and receives daylight from the east. The TV console wall has beige acoustic paneling that also doubles as concealed storage. A unique inlay pattern can be seen on the floor which adds emphasis to the space. On the left, in the concealed part of the room, the gym which doubles as a dance studio is present. It is accessed through telescopic sliding doors.

The son's bedroom is curated to match his personality. It is noticeably different because of the darker grey tones used in the space. A metal backdrop that compliments the space beautifully is placed behind the bed. To distinguish the sleeping area in the bedroom, an inlay of lines are found running around the perimeter of the bed on the floor. During the design, the son mentioned that he specifically wanted black marble for his bathroom making it unique to the rest. Warm lighting controlled through an automated system illuminates the space beautifully.

Outdoor Green Amphitheatre

An interesting feature of this house is the outdoor amphitheater that faces the east. Irregularly shaped, the stairs that form the seating creates a quaint enclosed space with greenery on all sides. Omani marble and black basalt stone are used to make the steps. The Bengaluru weather optimizes the use of the space as the family often gathers out into the amphitheater.
The final fourth floor is designed to house a huge outdoor terrace and services such as a laundry room and generator room. Overlooks the cityscape and the vast sky, the outdoor terrace is partially covered with a wooden pergola which is perched above an L-shaped seat made out of the marble from the facade. The pergola creates different and interesting patterns based on the time of the day.

The Wedge Villa is a great example of the versatility of marble. It has exceeded the client's expectations of their home by creating different spaces for recreational purposes while also maintaining spacious private spaces for each individual. It is a timeless design that incorporates natural elements like light into the space.
