This Home in Punjab Mirrors a Museum Exhibiting its Owner’s Prized Possessions

Once upon a time, in the land of five rivers, a family relocated to the confines of a gated community, where a son crafted a castle veiled in an encasing of pristine white walls for his mother. With interiors so enchanting, they transport one to a bygone era. Sat Chit Ananda, loosely translated to ‘blissful experience of pure consciousness’, stands true to its name, with each nook of the home embodying enthralling experiences. This dwelling is an homage to the regal roots of the family.

“In this case, it is pretty much mom’s and Mayank’s personality, which is this you know grand and larger than life, luxury…nostalgia. It's like rustic opulence.”

CROWN JEWELS

The imposing entrance casts an illusion of minimalism, with white-washed walls and a welcoming wooden door. An anteroom, takes the throne acting as a prologue, to the royal architectural narrative that unfolds. In this room, an ensemble of antique furniture, and a sumptuous deep crimson rug sits gracefully.

Next in line, is a double-height living area, layered with arches, wooden accents, and intermittent pops of color. Pristine white couches not only complement the exteriors but also stand as a stark contrast to the raw and rugged interiors. The dining enclave, serves as a consort, with its subtle poise, on the opposing side of an eccentric partition. A black dining table, and intricately carved wooden chairs, perpetuate the regal theme of the home.

OUT-OF-PLACE COURTIERS

One anticipates the act of opening a door and coming in through it, yet in the anteroom, that is subverted. Instead, a carved wooden door stares, from the verdant ceiling overhead. As the living room takes position in the southern corner, a challenge arises; of blocking out the army of harsh light with a singular opening. As a result, a wall filled with windows poses as a saviour, allowing the filtered light to grace the space, naturally cooling it. This wall guides one’s vision upwards to the ceiling, which is adorned with verdant and crimson-framed windows, imparting an airy vibrance to the space.

In perfect synchronization, the rugged essence of the home is mirrored through a balcony that oversees the living area. An adjacent stained-glass partition, to the wall of windows allows the light to waltz off its surface, thereby orchestrating an interplay of vibrant shadows. On the other side of the partition, within the dining area, a family heirloom in the form of a chariot repurposed as a seating emanates a regal vibe.

The stained glass panel adds a burst of colours to the rugged space. Visit Buildofy for the video of the complete project walkthrough.

PRIVATE QUARTERS

The first floor is not open to the public, all the while offering glimpses of the floor below. It houses a parlor dubbed as the Blue Room. Aptly christened, this room features all things blue, from plush couches to captivating paintings. This monochromatic room, accentuated by warm accents of carved wood exudes an air of imperial sophistication. A vibrant vintage reclaimed door, beckons one up to the familial sleeping quarters. Each bedroom, a canvas reflecting its resident’s personality, stands true to the names, lovingly bestowed by the family. One room exudes an aura of feminine chic, with block-printed white wallpapers and framed cross-stitched tapestries. Another, standing as a rugged contrast, with warm wooden accents, hints of metal, and a rifle staring from the lintel. The third bedroom is a pop of vibrance, ornamented with verdant tiles and paintings of Lord Krishna.

The first and second floors are exclusively reserved for the family. Visit Buildofy for the video of the complete project walkthrough.
