The Ramayana House: A Contemporary Tapestry of an Ageless Indian Epic
The Ramayana House transforms into a live canvas through an interplay of indigenous creativity, local craftsmanship, and modern design, depicting the saga's eternal journey in a captivating contemporary light.
The Ramayana House deviates from traditional epic reenactments, embracing a fresh, contemporary approach that revitalizes its narrative essence. The philosophy is brilliantly captured by Meena Murthy Kakkar, Co-Founder, and Design Head at Envisage:
"Each space within the house has been conceptualized to beautifully depict various chapters of the epic, evoking memories and nostalgic happiness."

A PORTAL TO FRESH BEGINNINGS
The Bala Kand, the epic's beginning, beckons at the house's threshold. This genesis is embodied in the doorway, which is decorated with the Ram Gayatri Mantra and handcrafted sketches from Devdutt Pattanaik's "Sita." Prasun Mazumdar's masterpiece encompasses Valmiki's Ramayana, launching an immersive voyage within.
TRANSITIONING THROUGH PASSAGES
The house's transitional areas artistically represent the Ayodhya Kand, bridging the gap between regal courts and verdant woodlands. The mosaic in the hallway mirrors the forest floor, while the walls have a mesmerizing Madhubani artwork reflecting nature's essence. The ceiling is designed to resemble the geometry of trees, perfectly blending organic materials to create a captivating forest atmosphere.
SPACES FOR TRANQUIL CONVERSATIONS
A beautiful tapestry of spaces unfolds within the living area, mimicking the feelings of the Aranya Kand. This living tableau orchestrates an experience trip through the epic's diverse locations and emotions, from a regal darbar to a forest-inspired baithak and a dining nook embellished with deer themes.
CULTIVATING GROWTH AND CONTEMPLATION
The family room on the first level epitomizes the essence of the Sunder Kand, providing a haven for private chats. Unwavering support is symbolized by clayman face sculptures reminiscent of the Vaanar Sena. A prayer area nearby emphasizes the spiritual value of Sunder Kand's story.
The outdoor space is reminiscent of the Kishkinda Kand and Yudh Kand, with birdhouses and a garden gazebo evoking the avian life and violent wars of the stories. The garden's layout matches the epic's setting, creating a concrete link between visitors and the spirit of the story.
A CELEBRATION OF CRAFTSMANSHIP AND HERITAGE
The Ramayana House is more than a pretty facade; it's a celebration of India's rich heritage and craftsmanship. Traditional creativity is perfectly blended with contemporary designs, from Chikankari and Madhubani art to metalwork and handloom upholstery. The house serves as a bright canvas where heritage and modernity dwell in harmony.
CLEAN SIMPLICITY
The Ramayana House is a living symphony, echoing the everlasting effect of a timeless story. It weaves together the epic's moments into a spectacular tapestry of emotions, colors, and textures by seamlessly combining architecture, interior design, and artistic expressions. This new rendition rekindles the Ramayana's charm, bringing back childhood memories and encouraging thought and awe.
As one walks through its halls, they embark on a journey that connects ancient wisdom and modern innovation, culminating in a fresh appreciation for both the profundity of the epic and the elegance of storytelling via architecture.
