PLANNING A PARTY PAD
The story starts with a novel brief — to make a party house. Tackling this quirky brief head-on, the architect duo Sarvesh Jain and Ankur Jindal decided that the way ahead was to deliver a design that was out of the box. Nanu House, as a result, is an architectural creation that combines tapering geometries and volumes to serve the functions of living space.
LIKE BRANCHING FROM A TREE
Using the inspiration from a tree — the central passage, which runs through the core of the house, is an interpretation of the branching structure. Just as the branches of a tree extend in multiple directions, the central passage of the house leads into other spaces, creating a sense of movement and fluidity. This design allows for a natural flow of movement within the house, as well as an increased level of privacy and separation between various areas. The use of the tree's branching structure as a design concept has resulted in a unique and organic layout that beautifully combines form and function.
LOUNGING IN PLAYFUL LUXURY
The living area of Nanu House is a vibrant and lively space with a striking combination of bold colours, patterns, and textures. The space is infused with a sense of playfulness and personality, making it an inviting and comfortable space for the users. Drawing inspiration from the tree, which was the key concept behind the design, the living area incorporates various elements that emulate nature. For instance, the custom-made carpet in the room is fashioned after the wings of a bird, while the swing is a creative interpretation of a nest. These elements add to the warmth and cosiness of the space, while also lending a unique character to the overall design.
EAT, LAUGH, SERVE
With the aim of maximising functionality and user interaction, the kitchen for Nanu House emphasises versatility and fluidity. The kitchen platform has been designed in an organic form, which not only enhances its aesthetic appeal but also reduces space wastage. The smooth, fluid lines create an unbroken flow, which makes the space feel larger and more open. The design also ensures that there are multiple workstations, which allows for multiple people to use the kitchen at the same time — making this not just a utilitarian space but also a place for socialisation and interaction.
The dining area of the house similarly boasts a stunning design, featuring custom-made furniture that opens up into the kitchen. The furniture has been designed using a parametric approach and fabricated with a monochromatic colour palette that exudes a bold yet elegant impression.
PARTY BY THE POOL
The swimming area in this space is a breathtaking sight to behold. The tensile roof fabric allows ample natural light to flood the space, highlighting the various textures, colours, and forms within it. A long passageway leads to the spacious swimming area which is connected to a unique shell-shaped bar counter. This counter is equipped with ample seating, both inside and outside the pool, making it a perfect spot to lounge and relax. When the night sets in, the lights in the pool area transform the space into a vibrant party pad.
THE BEDROOMS
The master bedroom is a stunning space that seamlessly blends luxury and nature. The highlight of the room is the outdoor shower and the panoramic view of the pool. The metal and rattan headboard is a standout element with its geometric pattern that adds texture and depth to the room. The walk-in wardrobe adds a touch of sophistication and convenience to the space.
The guest bedrooms are designed to inspire creativity and relaxation. Doused in pastel shades, one of the guest bedrooms is done in a dorm style and another is kept more private. The outdoor terrace is a perfect place to unwind and take in the beautiful views.
The Nanu House is not just a plain box, but an intricate blend of parametric forms and pastel shades that create a peaceful and harmonious environment. The space has been thoughtfully designed to allow the body and space to interact with each other, encouraging a sense of openness and freedom.
The exterior of the house has a lot of hidden depth and complexity, which may not be immediately apparent to the casual observer. Despite its unusual appearance, this house is a perfect embodiment of asymmetrical design elements, incorporating immaculately crafted and surreal furnishings that tie together to create an elegant and sophisticated theme throughout the space. The overall effect of this project is a harmonious and artful balance between traditional functionality and contemporary aesthetics, resulting in a truly exceptional living experience.
