Amidst this chaos of setting goals and implementing them, comes along a celebration of being young and potentially bold. National Youth Day serves as the celebration of experimentation and savouring the processes of life while being young. In this social setting, Buildofy looks at young design firms that ventured into the design world, to make a difference by their distinctive bold statements. From ingenious construction methods to avant-garde façade designs, here are five young firms to look out for in 2023!

Maanchitra

Vadodara | Gujarat

Maanchitra, an upcoming practice, was established in 2023 by the principal architects Milan Patel and Dutt Patel. Hailing from the state of Gujarat, the decision to set up their practice in the same locale, was feasible and rooted in practicality.

Buildofy chronicled their inaugural project- the Red Man’s House. The project’s foundational stones could be traced back to the architects’ years in architecture college. This residence, with an eccentric red figurine on the façade accompanied by double-height fins on the façade, tells tales of a cherished family member. Traditional elements, artworks, and a simultaneous interplay of light and shadow exude a contemporary vibe throughout this home. The dwelling seamlessly follows the trail of Maanchitra's principle of the fusion of aesthetics and functionality.

Rain Studio of Design

Chennai | Tamil Nadu

Established amidst the bustling lanes of Chennai in 2022, by the collaborative vision of principal architects Sriram Adhitya, Vamsi Krishna, and Bala Shanmugham. Rain Studio of Design believes in the transformative power of experiential design and innovative solutions to ever-occurring challenges. This young firm is rooted in a commitment to sustainability; through salvaging old unused elements, ingenious use of local materials, and pursuit of a harmonious blend between the structure and nature.

Karai is one ingeniously constructed home by Rain Studio of Design, that captivated Buildofy. Characterized by Mangalore tile walls, metal columns, and vibrant splashes of color, an experiential home design is brought forth. Karai is a collaborative holiday abode that unites four friends and their families through a central courtyard, within the symphony of natural surroundings. Seamlessly blending the interiors and the exteriors is one of the qualities the home takes from the Rain Studio of Design's unwavering foundational philosophy.

Studio Bhoomi

Principal Architect Chaitra Shivaswamy set up her practice in the bustling city of Bengaluru, in 2018. Studio Bhoomi is rooted in the wholesome concept of viewing each project as a seed that is sown and nurtured. With a cultivated portfolio of diverse projects ranging from hospitals to cozy houses, this young firm is rooted in the practice of building dreams. Chaitra believes in providing opportunities to young minds and serving as a conduit and outlet for their creativity to flourish.

Arunivas called on Buildofy, to showcase its design considerations spanning three generations. With seamless integration of the exteriors in its interiors, it effectively sows the seeds of mundane pleasures. Through thoughtful design, such as sit-out spaces, lounges, and terraces, the residence orchestrates the meeting of the family at various junctures. These spaces serve as mid-points, fostering heartfelt conversations and familial bonding. This residence exemplifies the thoughtfulness of its firm to provide bespoke spaces fashioned for every member of the family.

NaaV Studio

In the vibrant bylanes of Hyderabad, the inception of NaaV occurred in 2019, founded by Principal Architects Varsha Reddy & Niharika Didige. Their practice is grounded on the principles of infusing emotions in every space, thereby adding personal touches to their every design. NaaV Studio adopts an experimental approach with materials, hues, and textures reinforcing their core beliefs of innovation.

Buildofy’s lenses caught Verve, standing as a three-storied epitome of a seamless fusion of Indian and contemporary architectural styles. This tall residence is a witty solution to the constraint of plot size. The Use of Marble, MS steel, and glass fused with brass motifs, interwoven with Ikkat patterns exudes an air of timeless contemporary allure. Featuring rugs, curved furniture, and double-height spaces, a sense of homely luxury sets in the very bone of the dwelling. Filled with rich textures and vibrant pops of colour, this home resonates with the core value of the firm of being experimental in every facet.

Naked Volume Architecture Studio

Thrissur | Kerala

Naked Volume Architecture Studio is a practice based in the quiet bylanes of Thrissur, by Principal Architect Arjun Joshy, established in 2022. This design practice embodies a design ethos that fuses traditional techniques with contemporary aesthetics. This architectural practice carefully cultivates a reflective connection with nature, crafting volumes that transcend the constraints of time. It adheres to packing serene moments of joy over the pursuit of grandiose, unrelatable moments.

Buildofy’s gaze landed on Hridayam for its innovative approach and seamless blend between the interiors and exteriors through courtyards and bay windows. This residence, translating to ‘heart’ , serves as an ode to the principal architect's family, tying all its members together, through curated spaces. Embracing a fusion of traditional and contemporary elements, Hridayam focuses on a sustainable path while cultivating a deep sense of belonging among its residents. This dwelling enjoys the trivial joys of life manifesting from its firm’s core principles becoming an account of contentment.
