“We felt nature had to be integrated as a material palette. Therefore, gardens and courts are brought in, wherever possible”, Ar. Murali Murugan says.

A unique highlight is including a preserved coconut tree within the toilet area, showcasing a creative and unconventional approach to nature integration. Using natural materials like stone further enhances the home's timeless appeal.

#9 Tribhuvana | d6thD Design Studio

Khanderaopura | Gujarat

Amidst the ever-expanding concrete jungles of our metropolitans, Tribhuvana invites everyone to imagine a simpler, more harmonious way of life. This home is a testament to the ingenuity of local craftsmen, who skillfully repurposed materials like bricks and clay bags, breathing new life into age-old building traditions.

“I wanted to show the villagers that what they have is truly valuable. And, Tribhuvana is a small effort towards that direction”, reveals Ar. Himanshu Patel, Principal Architect of d6thD Design Studio.

By actively involving the community and honoring local heritage, the home fosters a deeper connection to the land and showcases the enduring beauty of sustainable living.

#8 Farmhouse in Mahiravani | Environ Planners

Nashik | Maharashtra

The Farmhouse in Mahiravani astonishes us with every aspect, from the carefully curated man-made mixed plantation surrounding the home to the reclaimed wada-style columns that elegantly define its spatial proportions. The home embraces the "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" principles, transforming it into a haven for relaxation, revival, and rejuvenation.

“I think it's a melting pot of all philosophies and ideologies we had in mind”, explains Ar. Anagha Patil about her own home.

This unique blend of design ingenuity and respect for the environment, where every detail, from the carefully chosen materials to the harmonious integration with the surrounding landscape, contributes to an unforgettable experience.

#7 Brick Box | Dhanesh Gandhi Architects

Kolhapur | Maharashtra

Another Wada-style home that made to the list is The 'Brick Box,' which challenges conventional perceptions of traditional architecture. It proves that the essence of tradition can be beautifully captured even within a compact 600 sq. ft. footprint. This home demonstrates that the spirit of WADA architecture, with its emphasis on courtyards, light, and ventilation, can be successfully adapted to smaller spaces.

Furthermore, the 'Brick Box' seamlessly integrates with the surrounding traditional homes, respecting the character of the neighborhood and demonstrating the enduring relevance of traditional design principles.

"The finished home that we see today, turned out to be exceptional. We never thought that such a home would eventually be standing in such a tight context”,  Ar. Dhanesh Gandhi exclaims in amusement.

#6 Kashish | 7th Hue Architecture Studio

Thrissur | Kerala

The concept of 'Living with Nature' resonates strongly with many, and this is one of the many reasons why Kashish has become one of the most popular projects of the year on Buildofy.

“This home, Kashish, is a tropical residence. So, we wanted to merge the boundaries between inside and outside. We always believe in coliving with nature,” Ar. Shyamraj, Principal Architect of 7th Hue Architecture Studio unveils about this home.

This contemporary home embraces traditional Kerala architectural principles like Nadumuttam and Paddipura, bringing them into the modern context. The Nadumuttam, a central courtyard often found in traditional Kerala homes, is a key feature of Kashish, filled with lush greenery and bathed in natural skylight, creating a serene and rejuvenating heart of the home.

#5 The Hyderabad Farmhouse  | 23 Degree Design Shift

Hyderabad | Telangana

Nestled within a sprawling 30-acre farm in Shamshabad, this farmhouse has become a dream retreat for many, where the allure of escaping the city and reconnecting with nature takes center stage. The home itself embodies a sense of peace and seclusion, inviting residents and guests to unwind and rejuvenate.  

The highlight, undoubtedly, is the serene water courtyard, a captivating space for family gatherings and moments of quiet reflection.

Ar. Neelesh Kumar, Principal Architect of 23 Degree Design Shift explains, “The water courtyard is the space where people from all the bedrooms can spill in and spend time together during evenings.”

This farmhouse maintains a simple and homely feel, fostering a sense of warmth and intimacy that makes it truly irresistible.

#4 The House of Cascading Gardens | Sankar & Associates

Salem | TamilNadu

The House of Cascading Gardens showcases a powerful interplay of luxury and nature. In the heart of bustling Salem, this home seamlessly blends marble elegance with lush, cascading gardens, creating an oasis of tranquility. The home's unique design features a series of interconnected gardens that frame the architecture and offer breathtaking views.  

“My idea of luxury is being able to enjoy natural light, (and) natural ventilation. I think today that is the luxury in most places considering how urban blight is spreading into our cities,” reveals Siddarth Sankar, Principal Architect of Sankar & Associates.

From the central courtyard to the rooftop terraces, every space is designed to connect residents with the natural world. This harmonious fusion of architectural grandeur and verdant landscapes has made the House of Cascading Gardens a standout project and a source of inspiration for many.

#3 Alarine Earth Home | Zarine Jamshedji Architects

Kochi | Kerala

Situated amidst lush paddy fields in Kerala, this home is truly unique in every way, making it a strong contender for the top 10 most viewed projects. From its seamless integration with the surrounding landscape to its innovative use of sustainable materials, the home embodies a philosophy of living in harmony with nature.

“Our concept for the house wasn’t, an architectural concept, it was a way of life”, says Zarine Jamshedji, Principal Architect of Zarine Jamshedji Architects.

Whether it's the verdant green roof that blends seamlessly with the surrounding fields, the sustainable aspects like the use of Schnell panels and laterite, or the humane approach of preserving neighboring views, this home demonstrates a deep respect for its environment. The technical aspects are equally impressive, with the rapid construction using Schnell panels and the innovative use of laterite finishing showcasing the architect's ingenuity.
